Title: The Big Day event, switching to U-verse.
Post by: Buggyman on February 11, 2009, 07:08:17 am
Well, it's 8:05 am, the appointment was made to be here from 8 to 10 am time line.
I was told they would call before coming, I've not recieved the call.
But I'm a realistic.. Those instructions are best case senario.
But talking to my neighbors who got the U-Verse, the main problem was the Clock arrangement.
Some were on time, but there over 6 hours.
Some where there late, but only a few hours.
I don't know if they got the call.
I'm mostly nervouse about the phone end. the rest will fall in place soon enough.
Good thing is.. It's now approaching 8:1o am and I still have the internet ;D

More as the day progresses ;)

Well, we're obviously got off to a good start.
No phone call yet....
No truck yet.....

At least the DW will be happy as the house has been cleaned up before they got here ;D

Well.... we's on u-verse now and my day was long, I took notes all day and it was facinating what they did.
Right now everything is in a default mode since they set it up.
That will change over the next few days.
But we have tv, IP phone and 1.5 mbps internet (which the DW says she can't tell a different).

More after whie ;)

Well, got our secondary e-mails up and running (oh boy was that fun)
Testing the speed factor showed no different than the comcast high speed prrformance.
The TV did show a couple video blinks last night, not sure what cause it because nothing else was running on the U-verse.
I recorded my first Movie during the night on the DVR  and it's set up to record my DW's  Y&R shows daily. Since that show is repeated daily on the soap channel you have to program the dvr to only record one time slot or it will record the show every time it comes on no matter what channel it's showing.

There are problems in the Outlook 2003 about the sed/recieve function, but going the one account at a time works fine.

I'll do a brief post on some notables on the installation later on, but it was neat seeing advance technology bring used,

Hows the honeymoon?   ;D

With Duh Wife or The U-Verse  :D

Kidding, Lovely as you learn more and more and get used to the different between U-Verse and Comcast. like the new channel line up and the on demand and so forth.
My only disappointment is that they only allow one "Favorites" list whereas with Comcast you could build them all day like Movies or Buggy's and so forth.
But that's the only thing I don't like, Expecially when you have almost two hundred channels to chose from  :o

OK.. I'm going to show some pictures to show how they used the comcast cables lines for the u-verse.
I'm going (I hope) to do three sections, The NID, The attic and then the front office where the gateway router is.  ;)

Now we go into the front office of the house, The tag on that one line says "Data"

If you couldn't tell, that first attic picture was where he deadended the comcast cable from the outside box to the splitter.
The second attic picture with the splitter has the top center (black) cable as the data feeder from the front office gateway router to feed all the TV lines (4) in the house.

I'm going to assume (since I'm color blind and I can't see behind the Phone jacks) the servive works this way.
From the CO to the NID is phone cable
From the NID to the front office is cat-5 which he used one pair
I think he use one color pair of the cat-5 for data feed going to the front office as you see the data cable plugged in the top jack.
Then he used a second color pair for in house phone lines
The bottom jack feeds (I assume) the Phone jacks inside the house. so when he checked each phone jack he probally use a different colored pair from the data line.

So.. how did I do?

Well it makes sense to me know, You recall I said by not checking the attic I may have missed how it was set up.
Which buh duh way, He plugged these little tabs with numbers into all the comcast lines. I assume that was his way of marking the lines and where they went. ;)

did you take a picture of the back of the gateway..
The NID is a normal hookup So I can only assume that the Gateway is doing the job of the spliter

I can't because there was just enough cable to plug it in. In fact I can only move it side to side about an inch and nothing more.

Ok.. gonna go reboot now ;)

I doubt that was a full reboot.
Holding the button in didn't make it shutdown until I released the button and then it was a simple off and back on reboot
We'll find out is the IP change as soon as a hit the re[;y button.

Got something o show yah is a few minutes ;)

well, It's been 14 days since I shut Comcast down, And they've been real quiet since then.
The comcast mail account keeps running through so I don't know what that means.
I did log on to my accout and nothing was accessable except the e-mails.
I spoke to my neigbor who switched like we did onlt a few weeks earlier, He said Comcast tried to charge them almost a full month charge for the final bill and His wife got bull headed and talked them down.
As always.. people seems to think they can't argue about bills.  ::)
My DW is ready and waiting because she is good at this.  ;D

I did find out a catch deal when it comes to shut off date.
One is the day you actually have them shut the account down, I will tell you they can't/won't shut the account down as long a the Port order is open, They have to have a different department close the Port order.
Then they have the second shut off date, that's when they come and disconnect the cable from the junction box next to the road. that's probally where they try to justify the balance owed.

As always, get the order number and write down dates ad anything you can, because Knowlage is power ;)

Funny how timing can take place. Yesterday as I was coming out of the house I seen this pick up just pulling away from the curb in front of my driveway, It looked like one of them Contract truck you see Comast uses.
So I thought no more about it untl last nigh when I was running my e-mail. The Comcast account kept asking for a password.
So.. the end of Comcast?
we'll see ;)

HO HO!!!!!
Today was a dandy, Got the Comcast bill and now they want to charge me last month AND this month. Oh they were so nice.. they're giving and additional $10 discount  ::)
Nothing was said about the discontinuation of service.

Guess I'll have to cal them monday because "Obviously the blling department hasn't got the word that my account is no longer active.

That be one of the smarter things to do with Facebook since they been broken into a few times..
Twasent fun yesterday.. When i went to leave duh back door wouldnt close.. I had to get under the back room and tighten the jacks to raise the house a little.. That back room originally was a pourch that was enclosed by the last owner and was never set right on the pads and it sinks every once in a while with real bad winters and thaw.

Good ole Jacks.. They oughta have them in every house with a above ground floor. Of course that would be on the "Inside" support footers especially in the hard freeze part of the country.

Becareful under there. ;)

Title: switching to U-verse. The Bill!
Post by: Buggyman on March 22, 2009, 09:54:46 am
OOPS.. Duh U-verse Honeymoon is over, ::)
We got the First bill and it was all screwed up. Nothing about the discounts and something someone forget to mention was that they will double bill your first bill.
They bill you for the "Past" month services and then The "Prorate" the next month bill.
That would have been nice to know because we already had to pay off Comcast and Moneys isn't flowing like a water fountain around here.
But that wasn't the kicker.
ALL though out the Switching process, "EVERYONE" in the system knew what services I was getting and how much I was paying.
Obviously someone forget to let the Billing department know  ::)
So.. I'll be on the phone tomorrow trying to get that straigened out.
As of the current bill I'm paying out more than I did with Concast.
Those in the Know needs to let yjosr who "Need" to know that this isn't  good "Promo" image they want to have.
I know it will get straigened out, But I shouldn't have to call in to straigten "Their" screw up.
Because If I was living pay check to paycheck then They would have had the first cancelation from me due to "Unpaid" bill.

As for the service itself.. I Love it and it's been trouble free with the exception of the minor e-mail problem we had a couple weeks ago. But The lady from AT&T got that resolved and no problem since.

They get stupid sometimes

Call 800 244 2444 at the prompt billing ask for a combined billing agent.
if they ask why tell them your combined bill is a mess and you only want to speak to a combined billing person..

When you get that person on the phone tell them your not happy and that your wife is really upset with the whole deal and that you need to know why the bill is so high and what happened to your promotion..

If need be work in how whe might just want to cancel everything.. Dont tell them you want to cancel..

Have them add everything up Take your time with it and ask at the end of the conversation how much they really need sent in..

Here's what I've ran into.. You get a Deal with them but the Computer dosnt take the deal at the time of the order.. Which I know they been trying to fix for months since taking on the third party order takers..

Bottom line only a Combined Billing agent can fix the problem and the Billing dept might also give some insite but then you might be put threw some added hold times..

Once all the billing is straght it should be good to go. Whatever the combined billing guy tells you your bill should be pay only that amount. Only because it might take a couple months for the bill to be straightened out... Its a automated computer problem and takes getting the flags in order.. and whatever the guy or girl tells you on the phone it still has to go threw several people to fix it..

Again the good part is they keep notes.. So ask for the refrence number at the end of the conversation..
If you call tomarrow make sure its before 11am your time..
Hopefully you get a agent in Ohio or MO. or further west

Well, I found out a few things and it should clear up from now on.
One I was ok with, the other bothered me on how they did it.
The Lady who set up my account at the beginning was "suppose" to inform me of the first bill dual amount. She may have, but I don't recall it.

Because the Combined bill was higher Dollar amount Uncle Sammy got a bigger chunk of the so call "Surcharges"  by percentage calculating. That hit me for more than $35.  >:(
She said when I got the next bill, because the total bill will be half what it is now then the Surcharge will be in the $15 range.

So chalk it up for Our Goverment's Taxing system. (lets leave it at that ;)

What DID bother me was in order to get me the credit for the two addtional recievers they had to put a credit on the U-300 channel package. Apparently they cannot credit receiver fees  ::)

It's fuzzy math that's all ;)

Talk about luck, the Lady I spoke to today was here IN Jacksonville AND lives about a mile form my house.
How freaky is that ;D

All is well in the U-verse land again. ;)
